For the past 14 years I've contributed to the Faces of Death project (aka F.O.D). Despite its morbid name, F.O.D is a celebration of cultural, creative and/or interesting souls that have left us in the past year. It's an open call, and there's a list of people to choose from, the famous ones get usually get picked quick. But you can write one in, which I did with Cale Yarborough.
Cale Yarborough reminds me of an earlier, simpler time, before NASCAR become what it is today. He started out racing on dirt tracks and went on to win 3 NASCAR championships in a row!
I’m reminded of being young, playing with my slotcars, and watching the races on TV. Sometimes my Dad would take us out to the track on a Saturday night to see the races and maybe a demolition derby.
The parameters of the project require you to do a black & white image, with no grey scale, that can be scaled down to 2". They print t-shirts with 50+ characters per side! The first image is the one I submitted, the other 2 were too detailed.
